Isles still keen on OIC membership

ZANZIBAR Second Vice-President Ambassador Seif Ali Iddi has attributed union government delays to join the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) to being afraid.
Ambassador Iddi, on Monday, said that the Union government was scared of the word Islamic and therefore delaying to join the organization.
He said there was no justification for the delay and hesitation, adding that most countries in the region such as Mozambique and Uganda were already members.
The second vice-president was responding to legislators who have been demanding Zanzibar to join the OIC, citing economical benefits as the main reason for Zanzibar to join the Islamic organization.
Zanzibar joined the organization 15 years ago, but pulled-out after it emerged that doing so was contrary to the Union constitution
Ambassador Iddi further told the House that the Isles was keen to join the OIC and expressed the hope that the issue would be resolved soon.
He asked the legislator to be patient because OIC memberships was now closely due to many applications. They are evaluating the situation before resuming accepting membership.
