Masaburi new Dar es Salaam Mayor

DAR ES SALAAM councillors on CCM ticket have chosen Dr Didas Massaburi the Mayor of Dar es Salaam City, scoring more than half of the total number of votes counted.

In the election held at Karimjee Hall in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, Massaburi who is the councillor of Kivukoni Ward, Ilala Municipality scored 61 out of 111 votes. He defeated the other hopefuls namely, Mr Abbas Tarimba with 33 votes and Hashimu Sagaf with 17 votes.

Before announcing the final results, the election supervisor, Mrs Ritta Mlaki requested all delegates and the aspirants to remain calm, insisting that the election was carried out in a free and fair atmosphere and the results reflected on the people’s choice.

She commended all participants for professional undertaking of the exercise such that not a single vote was spoilt. “This proves maturity in democracy among the party members,” Ritta said.

“And the winner is Mr Didas Massaburi,” she declared the winner followed by ululations, clapping, whistling and joyous shouts. The wife of the winner also an MP, Special Seats, Janet Massaburi could not ‘withstand the heat,’ as she cried in joy and knelt down praising the Almighty God for the husband’s victory.

Surprises never ended in three other municipalities of Dar es Salaam namely Ilala, Temeke and Kinondoni where similar scenes of celebrations and disappointment were noted. Some of the defeated hopefuls appeared devastated while the winners expressed gratitude to the voters who put them in office.

Mr Abuu Jumaa the former mayor of Ilala municipality and councillor of Jangwani ward was among the defeated. The new mayor of Ilala Municipality is Jerry Silaa from Gongo la Mboto Ward who scored 25 votes defeating other aspirants, Mr Abuu Jumaa (10) votes and Mr Salumu Bisalala from Kariakoo Ward with 2 votes.

The new deputy mayor is Eli Kessy from Kisutu Ward who clinched 20 votes, beating Salumu Masamaki (11) and Mtumwa Mohamed (5) votes.

Meanwhile Temeke municipality yesterday finalized the primaries ahead of the similar exercise and at the end of the process Maabad Hoja was declared the CCM candidate for the post of Temeke Municipal mayor.

Hoja was declared the candidate at the end of the meeting held at the municipal council chamber, defeating two other aspirants while Aisha Mpanjila was chosen to stand for the position of the deputy mayor.

Announcing the results, CCM Temeke district secretary, Saad Kusilawe said a total of 39 votes were cast and none was spoilt. Hoja scored 30 votes, followed by Mr Michael Mwakasindile with six votes and Zena Mgaya three votes.

As for the post of deputy mayor 39 votes were counted and none was spoilt as well, leading to the declare of Aisha Mpanjila the candidate after scoring 34 votes against Abdallah Chaurembo (3) votes and Muhidini Sanya (2) votes
