Qatar to invest in Zanzibar

From Issa Yussuf

PLANS are underway for investors in house construction from Qatar, United Arab Emirates (UAE) to invest in Zanzibar, the Deputy Minister of Land, Settlement, Water, and Energy, Mr Haji Mwadini Makame, informed the House on Thursday.

“We have signed an agreement with Qatar to have the investment in Zanzibar. All those who may need houses will be given without discrimination,” the deputy minister said when responding to questions from legislators.

In addition, Makame said that his ministry was encouraging house residents to renovate their dilapidated houses as the government considers to lease or sale to Zanzibaris who may need.

He dismissed as false allegations that the available government houses were being leased, or sold to people including public workers, with discrimination.

Mr Hija Hasan Hija (Kiwani) expressed his concern over allegations that the ministry has been biased in leasing the government houses
