Karume to flag off CCM's 34th anniversary celebrations

By DAILY NEWS Reporter,

NATIONAL Vice-Chairman of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and former President of Zanzibar, Dr Amani Abeid Karume will today flag off week-long celebrations to mark the 34th anniversary of the ruling party at the Biafra grounds in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.

Announcing this on Sunday, the Dar es Salaam regional CCM secretary, Mr Kilunde Ng'enda said the occasion, to start at 1:00 pm would be preceded by a procession by party members from different CCM branches.

He said that naturally, the climax of the celebration would be on February 5, this year in Dodoma where delegates from across the country and invited guests would converge to mark the occasion.

Mr Ng'enda cited appreciation by the general public as one of the factors leading to the steady growth of CCM, and that the number of party members had increased dramatically countrywide.

The Dar es Salaam regional CCM secretary said in the recent past the number of party members increased from 50,000 to 600,000 with the subsequent increase in the number of party offices and branches from 100 to 655.

"We (CCM) would like to extend appreciation to all members who proved their devotion in support to the party before, during and after elections.

"The regional party leadership will give certificates of recognition on the launching of celebrations," Ng'enda explained.

Last week, the Publicity, Policy and Leadership Secretary to the party's Central Committee, Captain John Chiligati, said among other activities throughout the week would include public rallies to thank all party supporters.

He also said that the party would find another time to assess its performance before, during and after elections and deliberate on factors that contributed to triumph and failure in some constituencies.
