LEADERS at local levels will lead people at a cleaning exercise across Zanzibar today to mark the beginning of the Revolution Day celebrations, with hundreds of people expected to take part, the State Minister in the Second -Vice President's Office, Mr Mohamed Aboud Mohamed said on Monday.
''From cleaning our towns, flying flags on public buildings to inauguration of development projects including education, health, and supporting vegetable producers are among the planned activities to honour this year's Revolution Day,'' Mohamed said at a press conference to unveil the celebrations timetable at his office.
He said national leaders including president Ali Mohamed Shein, his vice presidents Seif Sharif Hamad and Seif Ali Idd, and Union Vice- President Mohamed Gharib Bilali are among the expected guests during the planned activities. Revolution day is January 12, 2011. And this year it will fall on Wednesday.
The state minister said that a total of about 45 development projects would be inaugurated during the week of the celebrations, but declined to release the budget for the programme, saying; The expenditure will be known after the celebrations.''
He mentioned that the current Union between Zanzibar and Tanzania mainland, and the allocation of three acre land to the majority poor people, free education, and medical services were some of the achievement of revolution that Zanzibaris can boast of.
He said the Government of National Unity (GNU) ''will make sure that every citizen's rights are observed including land and property 'ownership.' Land demand is very high while the land area of Zanzibar is small, therefore laws and regulations must be observed so that land grabbers get no chance.''
