THE Government of National Unity (GNU) was keen on making Zanzibar a better place to live for everyone, a minister said here over the weekend.
The minister made the plea on Friday when winding debate on President Ali Mohamed Shein's speech delivered at the inauguration of the Zanzibar House of Represenatives in November, last year.
Dr Shein had outlined his government priorities in the next five years. The speech was unanimously supported by legislators.
"We are determined to control inflation, increase employment, improve the infrastructure and farming to increase food security in the islands," said the Minister of State in the President's Office, Dr Mwinyihaji Makame.
He said that water problems would also be resolved by replacing the dilapidated water pipes, which was a major reason for shortage.
He also promised that the government was working hard to improve the welfare of civil servants to encourage them raise productivity.
Almost all minister stood in turns in the debate chamber of the House and pledged to work on public concerns in areas of their ministries jurisdiction.
Mr Ali Juma Shamuhuna promised to end land disputes and "make sure that Oil and Natural Gas to be explored in Zanzibar territory to remain property of Zanzibar and not the union."
Ms Fatma Abdulhabib Fereji, minister responsible for environment vowed to crackdown people ruining the environment, as the minister of communication and infrastructure Mr Hamad Masoud promised to work on complaints from people in transport sector.
